{Aches and Pains and Cramps...Oh My!}

Well as I am at the final week of my second trimester I have noticed a lot of new side effects of my pregnancy - which are typical of any pregnancy but new to me. I decided this past weekend to completely clean out my laundry room which seemed great at the time but that same night I had leg cramping like you couldn't believe. Luckily after tossing, turning, moaning and groaning for about an hour I was finally able to get to sleep. I also find that the more inactive I am the more my back hurts. This happens a lot at work and at night when I sleep. I used to move around quite a bit but now am pretty immobile thus the lack of movement while I sleep and I usually wake up to an aching back. But I have been doing more walking lately and I am starting pregnancy yoga very soon. :) Overall though this pregnancy has been a true blessing and I get more excited everyday for when we get to see our daughter in person. So despite the aches, pains and cramps I am loving 27 weeks @ age 27!

{What's Going On With Reegan This Week}

At week 27, your baby weighs almost 2 pounds, like a head of cauliflower, {she actually weighed in at 2lbs 1oz last week} and is about 14 1/2 inches long with her legs extended. She's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing her eyes, and perhaps even sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. While her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning - with a lot of medical help0 if she were to be born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don't bother her, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.

{Our Lil Jumping Bean}

During our birthing classes we were told it is recommended to do occasional kick counts. All I have to say is our lil girl probably does a kick per minute during her active times...it is recommended to have 10 kicks every 1-2 hours. I trust that this will never be a problem for us. EVERY TIME we have had an ultrasound Reegan keeps the ultrasound techs on their toes! Good thing they have advanced technology with ultrasound machines where they can now rewind to get the picture or measurement needed. Additional information about the benefits of kick counts is below.

The kick count is an easy, non-invasive test that you can do at home to check your baby's well being. The idea is to be sure he or she is moving around enough.

There are numerous ways to count your baby's movements and numerous opinions on how many movements you are looking for within a certain amount of time. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends that you time how long it takes you to feel 10 kicks, flutters, swishes or rolls. Ideally, you want to feel at least 10 movements within 2 hours. Most likely you will feel 10 movements in much less time.

Though strongly recommended for high risk pregnancies, counting fetal movements beginning at 28 weeks may be beneficial for all pregnancies.

Remember: Your baby will normally have periods when it is asleep, sometimes lasting as long as four hours; however, this period should not exceed four hours.

{Great News}

We found out today at our Fetal & Women's Center of Arizona appointment that I am now considered to have a low lying placenta instead of a placenta previa which means I probably will not have to have a c-section when Reegan is born. We were most excited about the news that Reegan is still doing GREAT!...the doctor said, "...everything looks perfect." Ryan also insisted on verifying that they are sure we are having a girl. And guess what....we are STILL having a girl. ;)

{Big News Tomorrow}

Ryan and I are very excited to hear some important news tomorrow {at our 26 weeks appointment with the Fetal Women's Center of Arizona} - which is whether or not I have Placenta Previa. We are also VERY excited to get an ultrasound done to see our baby for the first time since 18 weeks when we found out we were having a girl! :) Stay tuned for more details from tomorrows appointment!

{What's Going On With Reegan This Week}

Your baby has put on quite a bit of weight by week 26 and is now a whopping 1.7 pounds. Your baby's total length is about 14 inches. Your baby is now starting to add a little fat to her bones, though she won't start accumulating too much fat until the last few weeks of pregnancy.

Your baby's heart continues to grow and develop at 26 weeks. You may even be able to hear your baby's heart beat through a traditional stethoscope placed on your stomach. Don't get too excited though, some women can go their entire pregnancy without being able to locate their baby's heartbeat using a stethoscope. The Doppler ultrasound is a much more effective and efficient way of measuring your baby's heartbeat throughout pregnancy.

In addition to organ maturation the nerve pathways in your baby's ears continue to develop and this will allow your baby to respond to sounds more consistently. You might notice your baby jumping more often now to loud noises. This is a good time to start playing some relaxing music to your little one. Some parents even enjoy reading to their babies during this time.

{Birthday With A Baby, A Bean & The BEST Hubby}

Between Reegan kicking me and all the special things {card, Tiffany Bean Necklace, breakfast, flowers and more} my husband has been doing for me this truly has been the BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!

I think my favorite gift was the bean necklace that I can maybe one day pass onto Reegan since we used to lovely call her Bean before we knew if she was a boy or girl.

{My First Mother's Day}

What a wonderful day I had! I spent it with family and friends and spoke to the my loved ones on the phone. It was a fun filled day that included eating, visiting and relaxing - three of my favorite things to do! I received A LOT of Happy Mother's Day wishes and it truly made me feel special! Reegan was kicking a lot which I interpreted as her way of saying Happy Mother's Day to me. :) I got lots of Mother-To-Be cards. Below are the words from the card that my hubby gave me. So sweet!

Together, we've made a beautiful family and a good life {FRONT}

I hope you know how grateful I am that you are my wife, my partner, and my very best friend. I love you. Happy Mother's Day! {INSIDE}

{What's Going On With Reegan This Week}

Your Baby: Week 25
Let your spouse put an ear to your belly -- he might be able to pick baby's heartbeat (no stethoscope required). Inside the womb, the formation of tiny capillaries is giving baby a healthy pink glow. Baby's also soaking up your antibodies, getting the immune system ready for life outside the womb. Eyes are forming, and baby will soon perfect the blink -- perfect for batting those freshly grown lashes.

{It Has FINALLY Arrived}

Thrilled that the Liberty of London baby quilt didn't sell out and I was able to get it for Reegan!

{Reading To Reegan}

Ryan read Reegan her first book Tuesday night. It was "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" a sweet gift from Melinda Hinkson. We can't wait to read this to her in person!!! Do you have any classic books that you love from your childhood? If so please feel free to comment with a good recommendation.

{Iron Rich Recipes}

I recently went to the OB to get a blood test done just for a standard check up. I found out that I am currently iron-deficient. The Dr. said just to up my over the counter iron dosage per day. So I talked to my nutritionist right away {Megan McNamee} to see about a supplement. Turns out my prenatal is already very high in iron. So I am just adding an extra dose per day and increasing the iron rich foods that I eat daily as well as the Vitamin C sources that are good for iron absorption. Sooooo if any of you have yummy recipes for steak or other red meat dishes please send them my way!

{Vegas BABY}

So Vegas was lots and lots much fun...but I now realize that is it not the best to travel when pregnant. Long lines for food, smoking everywhere, taxis are not always available, standing and waiting, etc. I was VERY proud that I was able to walk down the strip with the hubby from Plant Hollywood to the Wynn. However, this ended in blisters on my feet and Reegan sitting on my pelvic bone which wasn't the best...but my OB said I should be doing as much walking as possible so CHECK on that. ;) All in all it was another successful trip to Vegas but I'm VERY excited for my next trip to Vegas as we will be flying so I will have access to a restroom at all times and staying in an MGM condo that I hear is FABULOUS....and of course Reegan will get to hear from her Uncle Bill and Aunt Mac for the first time.

{What's Going On With Reegan This Week}

Your Baby: Week 24

During week 24, your baby is now more than one pound {1.3 pounds} and is about 11.8 inches long! As you track your pregnancy week by week, from this point out, your baby will resemble a tiny albeit complete little human being! Your baby continues to grow more proportional each and every day. During week 24 her organ systems continue to mature as do the central nervous system and even reproductive and circulatory systems. Your baby's lungs are also starting to form little branches and will eventually start producing a substance called surfactant, which prevents her lungs from sticking together and helps the baby to breathe after birth.

The amniotic fluid surrounding your baby begins to increase in volume after about pregnancy 24 weeks. This continues until delivery when your uterus will hold up to 2 pints of amniotic fluid.
